Mackintosh on the Lake Hosts First Annual Child Safety Day

Burlington, NC (PRWEB) June 16, 2007 -- Mackintosh on the Lake, a Wakefield Development Company master-planned community located in Burlington, NC, partnered with the Alamance County Safe Kids Coalition to offer free child-seat inspections and installations during its first annual Child Safety Day on June 9. In addition, to help promote child safety awareness in Burlington, Mackintosh on the Lake made a $500 donation to the coalition.

The Alamance County Safe Kids Coalition is an organization of public and private businesses committed to the reduction and elimination of preventable childhood injuries, with the Burlington Fire Department serving as the lead agency. Donated funds are used in conjunction with local and state grants to purchase needed supplies, print educational materials and provide programming related to the prevention of unintentional injuries in children.

"On behalf of the Burlington Fire Department and Safe Kids, I would like to thank Mackintosh on the Lake for this donation, which will support our injury prevention programs within the community," said Captain Matt Lawrence. "We are proud to make child safety awareness in Burlington a priority, and hope families across the county will be able to benefit from our events."

The event was held outside the community's new 7,000 square foot Resident's Club. While trained volunteers inspected car seats and educated parents and grandparents on proper installation procedures, children climbed aboard fire trucks and enjoyed treats and refreshments donated by local businesses, including Starbucks, Paul's Pastry and Heavenly Grounds. Hollywood Video and Luxury Nails also provided prizes for a raffle.

"We are excited when we can get involved with our local communities," said Polly Jenkins, senior marketing director of Wakefield Development Company. "We develop master-planned communities with families in mind, so we are proud to be working together with Safe Kids Alamance County and the Burlington Fire Department to support an important cause like children's safety."

Four out of five car seats are not used appropriately. Every year, this oversight puts thousands of children at risk for being injured in an auto accident.
