The notion of being able to support yourself financially with a home business is far from new. Certainly the rising number of self employed people show that more and more individuals find avenues of making money while staying at home rather than working for someone else. This of course appeals tremendously to stay at home parents, especially moms and even working moms who would much rather spend the time at home with their children than spending a stressful day at the office.

Unfortunately, many con artists want to take advantage of these women who want to become work at home moms and the number of scams is rising. The con artists are very clever and have devised many ways of trapping unsuspecting moms into investing into their non-existent ventures.

The Internet has of course become the premier spot for these scammers as they have a much wider audience and can take advantage of language barriers and the fact that it is difficult to police the internet. Everyday moms are looking to start up an internet business, and work at home moms will need to be extra careful before signing up with any company. They need to consider the websites that offer the secrets to making working at home possible ? are they genuine? Imagine the concept of simply paying someone $19.99 for a host of company names that will employ you ? does a genuine business opportunity really work that way?

The short and blunt answer is ?no.? It is well known that if something sounds too good to be true it often is, despite that little voice in your head that wants to believe otherwise. Such offers received from an unsolicited email, for example, should ring alarm bells as why would a reputable company permit its recruiters to SPAM you. Genuine and reputable companies will not contact you without your permission, and those who purchase email lists from spammers are not the kinds of outfits you want to do business with anyway. The same can be said for questionable websites that offer you the miracle cure or incredible fortunes ?you only have to part with your hard earned cash to order their starter kit. And then there are the sites where you can become a real estate appraiser (experience is not an issue it seems) or maybe even an antiques dealer where you would not know a piece of Chippendale furniture from any other. Tempting though some of these offers and sites may be, all you need to do is stop and realize how impossible it is for someone with no knowledge in a certain field to purchase a simple starter kit and succeed in such a career. Instead, these starter kits are often followed with requests for more money, usually for training, leads or promotional tools which eventually may leave you a little smarter but not necessarily working at home or any richer. Do not fall for these scams but instead keep a weary eye on these offers and promises. Remember if something sounds too good to be true be sure to stay away from it! Your bank balance will thank you for it.
